Ruchika and I were best friends from grade 6th to 12th. I drew all her biology diagrams and she solved my physics numerical. After passing out from school, we went off to separate colleges in different cities. Ruchika completed her engineering in computer science and got placed in a reputed IT giant. I too got busy with my work and life. By then social media had started to pick up and we found and followed each other through Orkut and later on Facebook.
Life moved on; we got married, changed cities, jobs and became mommies! Somehow in the whirl of all this we lost touch. Although we did see and ‘Liked’ each other’s pictures on Facebook but beyond that we did not communicate.
Once, while I was visiting my mother’s place, I got to know that Ruchika is also at her parental house which was just couple of blocks away from mine. The very next evening I landed to her place. Nothing could beat the exhilaration and joy of meeting your school buddy. We chatted for hours. Old memories and incidents were put on rewind. During the conversation I got to know that post her child’s birth, Ruchika left her job and became a full-time, hands-on mother to her son, who is 7 year old now. This did surprise me a little. Considering her professional excellence and her child’s school routine, she could have easily resumed work, which she was ever so passionate about.
Ruchika explained that she never wanted to send her child in a Day Care after school. Being in IT industry, long working hours were totally unavoidable. Hence she decided to quit instead of being in a continuous turmoil of guilt and stress.
She was quick to add that her husband encourages her to start a venture but having no clue of what to do and how do to, she is skeptical in taking the plunge.
After having this conversation with her, something struck me, which I was sure, would definitely help Ruchika in this situation.
My neighbour Kanak was in an exactly similar state. Last year she opened a pre-school in her bungalow itself and now it is running successfully. Knowing this, Ruchika sounded excited and asked me to put her through Kanak for further details on this.
Few months later, I get a call from Ruchika. She sounded extremely thrilled. She wanted to invite me for the launch and opening of her own pre-school, a Kidzee franchise.
I visited her school on the day of launch and was proud of to see my friend’s dream come true. Everything seemed well organised and managed. I was curious to know if getting the franchise of such a reputed chain was a cumbersome process.
Ruchika told me that when she made up her mind to finally go for opening a preschool and did some research about the whole process, she realised it is wiser to get associated with a renowned chain than doing everything on her own from the scratch.
